 About the Moulsham Traders Association

The Moulsham Traders Association (MTA) was established in 1973, following the separation of Old Moulsham from the rest of the town centre by Parkway, Chelmsford's inner ring road. MTA members provide specialist goods and services not generally available in other regional shopping centres and pride themselves on a more personal level of service that attracts customers to this historic area.
The purpose of the MTA is to promote the interests of businesses in Old Moulsham and give the traders an identity of their own, as a 'village within a town'. The MTA is a registered charity with committee members giving their time voluntarily to help promote the location of their members businesses. The MTA is still closely associated with Chelmsford town centre and has links with the Chelmsford Retailers Association, Town Centre Management and Chelmsford Borough Council.

Moulsham Street is particularly famous for its Christmas streetlights and grand lighting up ceremony organised every year by the MTA and paid for by its members. The lighting up procession and events attracts thousands of people every year to Moulsham Street and is probably the largest and most concentrated display of privately funded street lighting in the region.

Throughout the rest of the year the MTA helps organise other promotions, recent events including participation in the Marconi centenary celebrations in 1998 and our own Silver Jubilee celebrations.

Looking to the future we carry out regular radio advertising to promote our members, who also sponser this web site.

We hope that you will come and visit us in Moulsham Street where you will always find a great deal!
